Synoptic Sense Mini-Project Final Report Guidelines

Report Due Date:

Your final report will be due on or before Monday  March 1st  by 5 pm in my office in the Tree-Ring Lab (if paper copy submittal) or midnight (if electronic submittal).

 Format and Length

Your final report should be typed with double or 1.5 line spacing.  Length will vary depending on the volume of maps and charts you are including, but try to keep the number of maps reasonable by not including a lot of duplication and selecting the best examples to discuss and represent a point.  You can put extra maps (or movies?) in a paper or web appendix if you like.

The amount of text you write should be as much as you need to:  (1) introduce your project goals, (2) explain your methodology, (3) describe each of the key map or chart illustrations, (4) discuss them, and (5) draw some conclusions.  I’d estimate the equivalent of anywhere from 6 – 10 pages of text (double spaced) but this is only a guideline.  Use as much or as little as you need to get to the heart of your project without overkill!

Please include supporting references (both pubs and webpages) that you used to inform your analysis, discussion and conclusions.

REMEMBER:  The central part of your report should be your plots themselves – woven together, analyzed, and thoughtfully discussed in a series of interspersed paragraphs.

  A sample outline follows:

 I. Introduction
II. Purpose Statement
III.  Methodology
IV.  Plots and discussion
V.  Summary and Conclusions
VI  References (including webpages consulted, etc.)

If you have any further questions . . .  just ask!!!
