42Em741- Fremont cliff granaries

Tree-Ring Samples RD 18, 30-32

A large Fremont masonry and adobe granary with five chambers near the confluence of Range Creek and Nelson Canyon. Access to the site is by rappelling, athough features in the sandstone suggest a prehistoric wooden platform may have spanned the cliff face adjacent to the site to provide access to a nearby ledge. The site contains associated maize, painted ceramics, and a small polychrome shield figure above the largest adobe/masonry structure. A large, complex Fremont petroglyph site is located below the site, and a small Fremont village with masonry structures, ceramic and lithic artifacts is located on top of the sandstone formation above.
