Files: trread.me4 (This file), trdemo4.exe, SimModel.pdf The simplest way to install this program is to copy the Demonstration Disk (TRDEMO4.EXE) to the ROOT DIRECTORY of a hard drive. Then enter TRDEMO4.EXE -d which makes a directory DEMO and a subdirectory DATA and extracts the files into the appropriate directory. The -d preserves the directory structure so be sure to enter: trdemo4 -d. If you leave out the -d, it will place all files into your root directory including the climatic data. The path statements used in the demo will expect the climatic data to be in the DATA subdirectory and the DEMO main directory. Enter GROW and several options are offered. There is an alternant way to run the program by using the START.BAT file. However it has a DOS command that seems to work only on DOS 6.0 or higher. The new interface program, GROW.EXE, was written by Dr. Henry Grissino-Mayer, Laboratory of Tree-Ring Research. It has lots of help files and describes the options thoroughly. We will be developing such an interface to provide a more "user friendly" platform to run the model. The The file dosxmsf.exe is a driver for running the program and should be in your path statement or in the directory. The program runs in WINDOWS 95. Make a shortcut to Grow.exe and set properties to run with full DOS window. A new Manual in Adobe PDF format is included in all high density disks. It provides a description of the program with equations and will be published in "Tree-Ring Analysis". Eds: R. Wimmer and R. F. Vetter. CAB International, 1999. Read this file with Adobe Reader. The most recent version can be downloaded from the World Wide Web page www.adobe.com. The full version of the program is included in this disk. It can be run by entering TRG62.EXE but requires copying input files so they have the correct names. Current versions are available from my home page http://www.ltrr.arizona.edu/ people/hal/hal1.html or go directly to http://www.ltrr.arizona.edu/people/hal/demo.html. You can also download them by annomous FTP from FTP.ltrr.arizona.edu directory /pub/hal . This work was supported in part by a COBASE travel grant from the National Academy of Science in 1994 and CSIRO in 1996. If you want to participate with a small group that is developing this model, we will make the code available. Send a note with a brief proposal or let us discuss your participation and formalize some sort of agreement. Good luck and please let us know of any problems or what you think of the model. Harold C.
