ANNOUNCEMENTS

IF YOU MISSED CLASS TODAY

In class today we did the following:

1.  We began with the  "Sustainability Segment"  and watched the next segment of the PBS NOVA show:  Saved by the Sun .

(you can now view it again yourself  in D2L under the VIDEOS link.-- We watched the 10 minute section (beginning about minute 34:00 ) that discussed solar
energy in the USA and promising new solar technologies.)
-- We'll be watching the last segment in class on Wednesday.

2. Dr H then gave a lecure on Applying the Radiation Laws to wrap up this topic:

Topic #6 (wrap-up) Applying the Radiation Laws  (color pdf )

3.  To solidify the concepts, students were told to read points (a) through (g) on p 37 in Class Notes on their own.

Dr H also challenged students to try to come up with a response to the "Denier" argument about the effect of increasing CO2 at the bottom of page 37 in Class Notes-- Bonus point for anyone who comes up with a really good response!

During the lecture, we had some clicker questions and a whimsical look at the vibration/rotation behavior of one of the Greenhouse Gases:  nitrous oxide (N2O) by viewing an entry of the "Dance Your PhD Contest.  Watch it again here:
