ANNOUNCEMENTS

IF YOU MISSED CLASS TODAY

In class today we did the following:

1.Dr H started out by making an important announcement for those who haven't been using the D2l CHECKLIST.  There is an ADDITONAL reading on the Electromagnetic Spectrum to read for RQ-2.  The PDF is linked in the CHECKLIST for this week (Week of Sep 04-10).  If you haven't been using the Checklist regularly to guide your course tasks, START NOW!   Important information is posted there.

2.  Next Dr H talked a bit about ASSIGNMENT I-1 and did a demo of how to submit a file to the Dropbox.  Assignment I-1 is posted and the directions include information on how to do a D2L Dropbox submission, "How to Write a Great Paper" and a Grading Rubric.  The Dropbox is now open for your submissions and will be closed next Monday, Sept 12th at 11:59 pm (just before midnight) -- which is the final deadline.

3. Then Dr H gave  a presentation on  Topic #5 Electromagnetic Radiation - Part I

      Topic #5  Electromagnetic Radiation - Part I  [ color pdf ]

4.  Finally, a new class feature was started: the  "Sustainability Segment" during which we watched the first 15 minutes of the PBS NOVA show:  Saved by the Sun .

(you can view it again yourself at this online link -- we watched the first 15 minutes, up until the section where the film starts to discuss
the Greenhouse Effect) -- We'll be watching the rest of it in segments in upcoming classes.

As a follow up, learn more by going to the Nova website and viewing "How do Solar Panels Work? "
at: http://www.pbs.org/wgbh/nova/tech/how-solar-cell-works.html   Clicking on the "Launch Interactive" button  will give you a more detailed look inside a solar cell than was presented in the film.
