In class today we did the following:  

1.  Lon Huber, a former preceptor in the class, talkedt about the benefits of being a preceptor, and then about ASUA Sustainability Committee.

2.   Dr H gave a presentation on Topic #3 Quantifying Global Change.   It included answers to Part B on Science Quotes from last Friday's handout.

3.  Lastly we went over a HANDOUT on Plotting Change over Time, Recognizing & Describing Different Types of Change as Depicted in Time Series Plots
     
  We started the exercise of describing each type of plot -- finish it up on your own and we'll wrap it up in class on Wed.

  P.S.  SCIENTIFIC NOTATION REVIEW:   Students were urged to "brush up" on the scientific notation rules on
            p 18 of CLASS NOTES (when you get your copy)
            SGC-E-text Chapter 2 also has a review and some practice questions.

Here are the answers to the Scientific Notation Practice questions on p 18 in Class Notes:


Examples:    (7.5 x 10 5) / (2.5 x 10 2) = 3.0 x 10 3

Answers:

Wavelength of UV radiation = .0000001 m

Population of the world = 6 x 10 people

Ratio of Earth diameter to diameter of a carbon atom =

1 x 10 7 / 1 x 10 -10 = 1 x 10 17
